Celebrating Dolly Parton's Legacy of Love and Literature
What is Dolly Day?
In honor of her famous song, “9 to 5,” September 25 is now being called “Dolly Day” by many. It’s a celebration of the incredible impact Dolly made in the lives of millions across the world through her music and philanthropic efforts, including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which sends books to children under 5 each month at no cost to families. United Way of Whatcom County runs this program locally, registering all the kids and paying for book printing and shipping so that families across Whatcom County can receive these beautiful books for free.
Exciting update: As of 9/17, Bellingham Mayor, Kim Lund, has officially proclaimed 9/25 Dolly Day! We're immensely grateful for this unique opportunity to honor and celebrate Dolly Parton's legacy each year.
Dolly Day celebrations and fundraisers in Whatcom County:
Dolly Day at Kulshan K2, 5-9 PM
(Moved from Trackside to K2 so it doesn't rain on Dolly's parade!)
Two-step over to Kulshan K2 for a Dolly Day event complete with classic Dolly tunes, a Dolly Bingo game, a children’s book drive, pink beer, and more! Come say hi to our team and take a photo with our life-size Dolly Parton cut-out!
Fiamma Pizza & Fiamma Burger
This fundraiser is two-fold!
New Dessert at Fiamma Pizza: The Apple Dolly Skillet!
On 9/25, they’re donating 100% of sales from this new dessert to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Whatcom County!
Round-up for Reading at Fiamma Pizza, Fiamma Burger, and Pye Hole
From 9/25-10/25, customers at Fiamma Burger & Fiamma Pizza (including Pye Hole, of course!) will have the option to round up their order to donate! In-person customers will also have the option to add an additional donation on their receipt.
Boundary on State
Hop on over to Boundary Bay Brewing Co.’s new location on State Street for $9.25 featured specials! Plus, 15% of all sales on 9/25 will be donated to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Whatcom County!
Siren's Cove Social House
This brand-new Lynden social house is already making waves in our community! A portion of sales on 9/25 will be donated to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Whatcom County, so dive in for some food, drinks, and Dolly-themed activities!
Beach Cat Brewing - Bellingham & Birch Bay Locations
Beach Cat has always been a friend to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, hosting monthly Dolly Nights at their Bellingham location every third Wednesday throughout the warmer months. So it's no surprise that they're participating in Dolly Day too! On 9/25, they'll be donating $1 from every pint and hosting a book drive at BOTH locations! Thank you, Beach Cat!
Aslan Brewpub
Round-up for reading at Aslan Brewpub! Customers at Aslan’s Brewpub location will have the opportunity to round-up their check to donate to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library!
How you can make a difference on Dolly Day
Businesses:
- Donate a portion of your 9/25 sales to United Way of Whatcom County in support of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and give local kids the life long gift of reading! We can provide promo materials and information about the program to share.
- Host a Dolly themed event on 9/25 and share that info with us. We’ll keep a full list of happenings on our website and share out regularly.
- Place the Dolly Day flyer in your window, on your community board, or at the register.
Friends and Fans of Dolly:
- Sponsor one or more local children to get books mailed to them from birth to age five and keep this amazing program going!
- Donate new or gently used books to United Way of Whatcom County and we’ll make sure they get to local nonprofits, child cares, and programs that need them! You can drop books off on Friday, 9/25 from 9 AM - 5 PM.
- Share information about Dolly Day and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library with your friends, family, and followers!
- Visit your local library. These folks are our local literacy champions and heroes every day of the year!
- Read a book to a child. As Dolly herself once said, "You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children."
