Celebrating Dolly Parton's Legacy of Love and Literature
What is Dolly Day?
In honor of her famous song, “9 to 5,” September 25 is now being called “Dolly Day” by many. It’s a celebration of the incredible impact Dolly made in the lives of millions across the world through her music and philanthropic efforts, including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which sends books to children under 5 each month at no cost to families. United Way of Whatcom County runs this program locally, registering all the kids and paying for book printing and shipping so that families across Whatcom County can receive these beautiful books for free.
How you can make a difference on Dolly Day
Businesses:
- Donate a portion of your 9/25 sales to United Way of Whatcom County in support of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and give local kids the life long gift of reading! We can provide promo materials and information about the program to share.
- Host a Dolly themed event on 9/25 and share that info with us. We’ll keep a full list of happenings on our website and share out regularly.
- Place the Dolly Day flyer in your window, on your community board, or at the register.
Friends and Fans of Dolly:
- Sponsor one or more local children to get books mailed to them from birth to age five and keep this amazing program going!
- Donate new or gently used books to United Way of Whatcom County and we’ll make sure they get to local nonprofits, child cares, and programs that need them! You can drop books off on Friday, 9/25 from 9 AM - 5 PM.
- Share information about Dolly Day and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library with your friends, family, and followers!
- Visit your local library. These folks are our local literacy champions and heroes every day of the year!
- Read a book to a child. As Dolly herself once said, "You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children."
